Museum of Dog displays Dog Kibble Art

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) Patrons of a quirky New York City exhibit are giving it two paws up. The AKC Museum of the Dog in Midtown is showing reimaginings of some of the world’s most famous pieces of art, but with a twist: They’re made completely out of dog kibble.

“They’re wonderfully vibrant pieces, and from afar you might look at it and think ‘Well, I can tell it’s not actually the Mona Lisa, but what is off?’ And then you get closer, and you’re like ‘Oh, it’s incredibly built out of dog food,'” executive director Christopher Bromson told 1010 WINS.

The installation, dubbed The Art of the Breed, is on display now through June 9. It came about from pet nutrition company Royal Canin as it launched its new breed-specific food for corgis—though the art pieces use kibble from the group’s various breed formulas, making shape, size and texture part of the work. A contest was initiated, and the winners created the pieces from Scream to Girl with a Peal Earring out of the dog food.

“My first question when they proposed doing this to us was ‘Oh, we allow dogs in the space. Am I going to have dogs jumping on the wall to try and eat the art?’ The answer was no, they are sealed both with paint and other chemicals to prevent smell getting through,” Bromson said.
