WHITE PLAINS, NY (1010 WINS) It should be a purrfect weekend for cat lovers at the Loving Cats Worldwide CATstravagana, May 4th and 5th, at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

The fabulous felines will compete for points to earn titles from Champion to Ultimate Grand Champion, with judges from the United States and around the world, including LCWW Founder Steven Meserve.

What’s different about this cat competition, Meserve told 1010 WINS, is that household cats are also included, in some events, right alongside the pedigrees.

“It’s a really kind of interesting,” Meserve said, “because (when a moggy wins) it’s like the underdog. The crowd goes crazy. People really love it.”

LCWW also prominently supports animal rescue. “We promote breeding to a small scale”, says Meserve, “to the benefit of the breed. But we also heavily promote rescues. That’s our motto: all about all pets, and everybody is equal, whether they’re a longhaired persian or just a brown tabby off the street.”

In fact, Meserve says their Cat Walk portion of the show acts as a deep dive into the different kinds of breeds, to educate prospective owners who may like the look of a cat, but not realize the work involved.

He pointed to Bengals in particular.

“They’re beautiful cats,” he told 1010 WINS. “But do you actually have the time to spend with that cat? They’ll turn your life upside down. They like to be entertained. In the show and on social media, we’re explaining the pluses and minuses of particular breeds, and we’re highly encouraging people to do their part in the rescue end as well.”

To that end, a number of local rescue organizations will be on hand with cats up for adoption, including SPCA of WestchesterCat AssistanceMeow SquadFurr 911Katie’s Kats Island RescueOnly Maine Coons Rescue, and Rock-N-Rescue.

Adult tickets are $35/Seniors & Ages 5-17: $30, and can be purchased HERE.
