All For Animals TV #67 – The Brodie Fund

November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month, but what folks may not be aware of, is that there’s help for people who can’t afford the cost of treatment for their animal.

Named for a tabby treated for a cancerous nasal tumor in 2015, the Brodie Fund’s mission states that “no pet should face economic euthanasia in the fight of their lives because of the owner’s inability to pay for treatment.”

The Brodie Fund offers grants for both cats and dogs and works with a specific network of hospitals in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Those include The Animal Medical Center in New York, Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, VRCC Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital in Englewood, and The Veterinary Cancer Center in Norwalk.  They’ve also recently expanded to Colorado.

Separate from their regular application process, they also have three grant programs, including “The Season Of Giving” which is awarded specifically during the holiday season and may include cases treated outside their regular network of hospitals.

“Brodie Goes Abroad” provides assistance to a cat or dog outside the United States, and recently benefited Simon, a rescue cat from Greece who was rehomed in the Netherlands!

Their “Brodie To The Rescue” grant was started in 2018 and is currently available in New York and New Jersey only.  It was most recently awarded to the group Little Wanderers NYC  to treat a cat they rescued named Edie who was ultimately adopted by her foster mom.

All For Animals TV caught up with The Brodie Fund Founding Director Sally Williams recently at Cat Camp NYC and got the scoop on the work they’re doing.  We also spoke with “Cat Man” Chris Poole, cat daddy to the famous Cole & Marmalade of social media fame.  Marmalade is a five year cancer survivor who served as the Brodie Fund’s spokescat for National Cancer Awareness Month in May.

Get more info on both applying for assistance and supporting the fund at TheBrodieFund.org and follow Marmalade on Instagram at @ColeAndMarmalade.
